I was looking for info on peregrine falcons (as one landed in my pear tree the other day) and found your site. How did you become a falconer? How do you get your birds and how do you become familiar with them? In other words, how do you train them? Great photos.

You have already been of great help to us, Pam, with your detailed answers about the three hawks who are living in our yard. You identifed them, from pictures that we sent (that my husband had taken) as young Cooper's Hawks. We are completely enchanted with them. Although their flight is practically soundless, they announce any move (from a tree branch to another location) with loud vocalization, and so there is no surprise element to be had when the youngsters start on a food sweep! Do they ever learn to fly silently? They might be more successful if they could keep from announcing their intentions! - Lorna Pryor.

My husband and I spent this past weekend standing in our yard, watching three hawks, who seemed to be quite at home in our tall oaks nd pines. My husband took numerous pictures of the three, and we have tried to find a picture in our bird books that will specifically identify these handsome birds. We cannot find QUITE the right photo. We also feed the small birds, and have a plethora of red birds/blue jays/tufted titmice/black-capped chickadees/red-bellied woodpeckers/little downy woodpeckers/Carolina wrens/goldfinches (at times). We were horrified Sunday morning to see one of the hawks holding down, and eating, some smaller bird. We could not identify the prey, but realized, of course, that the hawk has to eat something! These three are in a part of our yard that is far away from our feeders, and they seem content to occupy that remote part of our yard. The request that I have is to see a group of pictures of the several more common types of hawk, so that we may identify what we have visiting (or living!) with us. I would appreciate any photos that you could share. Or, I could attach a photo (or more!) that my husband took of our three hawk-friends.

Great Pictures. I am in my 3rd hunting season with a female redtailed hawk. She is catching rabbits and her weight is going up. She started hunding at 1130 in 80 deg. weather and is now hunting at 1190 in 30 deg weather. Happy hunting. Do you know of anyone with experience with the Ornate hawk eagle? I see you have a picture of one.

Great Intro.... Since Nina, my wife, is the only proffesional falconer in The Netherlands and because apart from hunting we do lots of demo's in the Celtic style all around the country, your lay-out hit me bulls eye. Great main page, looking forward to the rest. Greetings, Robert & Nina
