This Dentzel tiger has been refinished to show off the wood grain by utilizing transparent oil glazes directly over the sealed wood surface. There were some dark heartwood areas that needed overpainting and woodgraining to bring them to the same tone as the rest of the tiger. The light areas were also glazed down to make the undertone of all the wood areas cohesive. Then, the stripes and subtle color glazes were painted on by hand.

This is a Looff "Sneaky Tiger" - one of only three known to exist.

Once finished, this animal really seemed to stalk me in my studio.
